Debian Cinnamon Brightness Key

After installing fresh Debian 8 with Cinnamon desktop manager on my work laptop, I noticed that my brightness keys (Fn-F5 or Fn-F6) doesn’t do anything. Both the Power Management and Display Settings doesn’t have those settings to increase or decrease brightness.

After a quick googling, I found out that I need to add some entries to my X11 conf.

  1. With root privileges, create new file /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
  2. Use these as the content for the newly created file:

    Section "Device"
    Identifier "card0"
    Driver "intel"
    Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
    BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
  3. Reboot

For information, my work laptop is ASUS X45C with Intel i3 Processor and Intel HD® Graphics.
